This month we are pleased to introduce NW Works’ new Communications Specialist, Alexis Young!
Alexis joined NW Works in September of 2022 and is often the first point of contact for people calling or visiting our facility.

Originally from Lakewood, New Jersey, Alexis has lived all over the country, including Northern Virginia and Rappahannock County. After graduating from high school in Rappahannock County, Alexis moved to North Carolina to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Religion and Philosophy. However, she decided to change course and pursue a career in childcare, in part because it allowed her the freedom to travel more easily.
“Since I didn’t have kids, my mom always told me to travel, to go see the world,” Alexis said. She continued to travel, spending time in Texas and London, England before moving to Ashburn, Virginia to help care for her grandmother. After becoming pregnant with her daughter, Averi, she chose to relocate to Winchester.
“I love the feel of Winchester,” she said. “When I first came down, it was just Apple Blossom and the energy? I loved it.”
With the birth of her daughter, Alexis was determined to build a stable career that her daughter could be proud of. She says she found that in NW Works.
“[Everyone’s] so welcoming. The clients are amazing – I talk about my job all the time,” she laughed. “I learn something every day from them.”
Being at the front desk, Alexis was quick to get to know some of the individuals served by NW Works. Whether talking about a client’s favorite sports or the day’s activities, Alexis says she appreciates the opportunity to see the impact of NW Works’ services each day.
“[The staff] put so much effort into the clients. We care about their futures, what they want to do, and what’s happening in their lives,” she said. “It’s not just a job.”
When she’s not at NW Works, Alexis spends as much time as possible with her daughter, whether at family gatherings or out at the park.
“She’s a great baby, she’s the love of my life and has grounded me, really,” Alexis said. “She’s crawling now so I’m literally on the floor all the time, just being with her.”
If you stop by our offices, be sure to say hi and let Alexis know how she can help you!
