Meet Brandon! Brandon has been at NW Works for two years, serving as the Production Supervisor in NW Works’ warehouse. Being able to help adults with disabilities progress through skill building and increase their confidence to secure a job in the community is what led Brandon to NW Works. As Production Supervisor, Brandon witnesses individuals with varying skills completing projects that businesses request of NW Works.

Brandon’s favorite part of his job is the community he’s created with his associates. NW Works’ Mission was what drew Brandon to NW Works, but the relationships he’s developed solidify his love for the organization. As Production Supervisor, Brandon oversees individuals who might not have made connections if it weren’t for their occupation. Folks in the warehouse check in, develop friendships, share meals, and become a community that complements each other to create an excellent group of workers.

Community and progress are two values that overlap in Brandon’s role when clients at NW Works express an interest in warehouse work. Tasks can range from labeling paint cans to assembling screw kits for businesses that have requested NW Works’ services on the commercial front. There are many opportunities available for employees on the production floor, along with many moving parts to the jobs that come through the warehouse. These jobs can bring a new community of workers into Brandon’s world- individuals in NW Works’ Day Support Program looking to try a new line of work. As with any job, individuals may come in with doubts or low confidence on their ability to do tasks. A highlight of Brandon’s job is watching these doubts get turned on their heads as individuals begin developing their skills and building confidence.

Brandon’s advice for individuals interested in working at NW Works is to be compassionate and engaged. Compassion speaks for itself, and as Brandon put it, “we’re all people here, and being compassionate is just a good way to operate.” As far as engagement goes, Brandon said “It’s good to walk down the hall and hear folks calling your name or saying good morning. If you want to change the mood or lift things up being engaged is the way to do it.”

Outside of work, Brandon is just as committed to being engaged and supporting his community. Brandon’s free time is spent with his family and visiting farmer’s markets!
