NW Works in Profile: Kelley Henry
Meet Kelley! Kelley is a Winchester native who found her passion for giving back to her community as a registered nurse in the school system, and later as NW Works’ Front Desk Receptionist. In 2018, Kelley experienced medical complications that led to a partial amputation of her leg. Kelley had hoped to return to the school system the following year with a prosthetic. Kelley’s plan did not come to fruition, and she was unable to return to her position in the school due to numerous medical difficulties that resulted in her leg needing to be amputated above the knee.
Kelley navigated both physical and emotional challenges that led her to reconsider what employment looked like for her. As Kelley searched for a job, she saw NW Works’ commitment to people with disabilities and knew it would be the perfect occupation for her between the opportunities for mission-driven work and valuing the disability community. In her heart, Kelley knew NW Works would be the place for her shortly after she interviewed with members of the team. Kelley couldn’t help drawing parallels between nursing and the receptionist role due to the daily interactions that strengthen connections between service providers and those receiving the service.
Living in Winchester her entire life, Kelley has come to appreciate the role NW Works plays in the community, recognizing the urgent need to raise awareness about the work being done to support individuals with disabilities. Kelley has first-hand experience understanding the dignity and sense of purpose that work provides for individuals with disabilities or others with barriers to employment. Kelley is driven by more than just the job; her focus is on building relationships and advocating for the needs and rights of individuals served by NW Works. As the Front Desk Receptionist, Kelley plays a key role in connecting with community members and individuals receiving services from NW Works.
Beyond her professional life, Kelley finds joy in spending time with her family, whether it’s basking in the sun at the beach, going bass fishing with her husband, or cheering on her sons during wrestling matches.
